CLA– USEN FELLOWSHIP FOR HEALTH EDUCATION
Fellowship description:
MCI is offering a 10-month fellowship opportunity to learn about public health education
through hands-on experience working with rural communities to improve their health.
The fellow would have the opportunity to interact with non-profits, health departments,
and local community leaders throughout the program. This would allow the fellow to
learn from a variety of public health professionals. The fellow will receive on the ground
training at different microclinic program sites in Kentucky, primarily in the Cumberland
Valley area, in order to observe and assist with the implementation and monitoring of
the microclinic programs.
Qualifications:
Interest in and commitment to public health education and/or rural health
Excellent people skills, ability to work with community members, health
department staff, and a wide variety of stakeholders
Highly organized, extreme attention to detail and meets deadlines on time
Experience teaching or facilitating is a plus
Degree in public health and/or education is a plus
Willingness to travel in Kentucky while based in the Cumberland Valley area
Cost of living stipend:
The fellow will be given a cost of living stipend. The fellow will not be an employee of
MCI and therefore is not entitled to wages and benefits. There is also no promise or
guarantee of employment when the fellowship ends.

QU-MCI CLA– USEN FELLOWSHIP FOR ADVANCED PUBLIC HEALTH RESEARCH
Overview:
Qatar University (QU) and Microclinic International (MCI) are partnering to implement a
randomized controlled trial (RCT) to measure the impact of a microclinic diabetes
intervention in Qatar. The RCT will assess the efficacy of the microclinic approach of
harnessing social networks to improve chronic disease prevention and management
interventions in Qatar. The research will compare observed lifestyle behavior and
metabolic changes in the subjects taking part in the microclinic social network model to
behavior and metabolic changes in the control group. Additionally, the research will
analyze the contagion effects of the microclinic model by observing lifestyle, behavior,
and metabolic changes in consenting family and friends of microclinic participants. The
research and analysis will be based on data collected through clinical screenings and
surveys administered in Qatar.
Fellowship description:
QU and MCI are offering a 1-year (with the possibility of extension to 2-year) fellowship
opportunity to learn about research trial management and public health interventions
through hands-on experience working with diabetic and pre-diabetic communities in
Qatar. The fellow would have the opportunity to work under the mentorship of senior
research faculty at QU and MCI. In addition to participating in groundbreaking research,
the fellow will also have the opportunity to interact with a wide range of public health
actors such as non-profits, government agencies, and community stakeholders. The
fellow will receive on the ground training at program sites in Qatar in order to assist with
the implementation and monitoring of the RCT and microclinic diabetes intervention.
Qualifications:
Interest and experience in research trial administration and management
Highly organized, extreme attention to detail and meets deadlines on time
Experience dealing with databases and large volumes of electronic data
Excellent people skills and ability to work with community stakeholders
Degree in public health or health sciences is a plus
Experience with data analysis and statistics is a plus
Fluency in Arabic is a plus
